Sue Beson nominated for Community Service and Volunteerism
The Senior Connection’s Salt and Pepper Outstanding Senior Awards honor the legacy of the late Honorable Claude Pepper, a champion for older Americans whose lifelong dedication to improving the lives of seniors continues to inspire. Each year, individuals age 60 and older from Hillsborough, Polk, Manatee, Highlands, and Hardee counties are nominated by their communities for making a meaningful difference.
This year, Sue Beson stands out as a shining example of that impact. Nominated by Ridge Area Arc in the category of Community Service and Volunteerism, Beson earned top honors for her unwavering commitment and heartfelt service.
Since 2022, Beson has been a devoted volunteer at Ridge Area Arc, an organization focused on supporting individuals with developmental and other disabilities. Twice a week, she leads Tai Chi classes for participants, bringing not only skill and consistency but also warmth, patience, and genuine care. Her work helps empower individuals to grow in confidence and pursue their goals in all areas of life.
“Sue brings something truly special to Ridge Area Arc,” said Volunteer Coordinator Amy O’Hern. “Her presence alone makes this a better place.”
CEO Kathleen Border echoed that sentiment, highlighting the deeper connection Beson has formed. “Many volunteers come to share a skill, but what Sue has built goes far beyond that,” she said. “She’s become family. Her enthusiasm turns even the smallest achievement into a celebration, and that kind of encouragement is priceless.”
Beson is one of five individuals recognized across categories including Education and Mentoring, Health and Wellness, Business and Entrepreneurship, Arts and Entertainment, Community Service and Volunteerism, and Philanthropy. All honorees will be celebrated at the Ride & Shine Inspirational Breakfast & Awards Ceremony in Tampa.
